5 Essential Steps for Jump Starting a Car Battery

0 out of 5

About this property

Jump-starting a car battery is a straightforward process when done correctly. First, ensure both vehicles are off and parked in neutral or park. Connect the positive (red) jumper cable to the positive terminal of the dead battery, then attach the other end to the positive terminal of the charged battery. Next, connect the negative (black) cable to the negative terminal of the charged battery. Finally, clamp the other end of the negative cable to an unpainted metal surface on the dead car, away from the battery. Start the working vehicle and let it run for a few minutes before attempting to start the dead car. Once started, carefully remove the cables in the reverse order of connection.
